PDZ to be Classic, and new maps uncovered
The original Facility and Temple from GoldenEye are back
Microsoft celebrates the success of Perfect Dark Zero (one million units sold) by releasing this month a Classic Edition including Xbox Live Marketplace’s Multiplayer Map Pack 1, IGN reports. Although the final price of the edition has not yet been announced, this new content (which includes Plaza, Trench, Rooftops and Gas Plant multiplayer maps) will be added for free. We bet that most owners of the original PDZ who already paid for those maps several months ago are not be very pleased right now.
In addition to this piece of news, a second Map Pack has been released via Xbox Live. This new pack is completely free and it features N64’s original Facility and Temple maps from GoldenEye. Temple has been renamed Ruins, probably because there was already a Temple map in PDZ. We’ll see what they do if someday they decide to adapt the actual Ruins level from… the original Perfect Dark.
In case any of you was wondering, we can tell you that Facility is still as small and narrow as it used to be on N64. What is obviously great. And no, those Erlenmeyer flasks over a ventilation pipe in the ceiling are not still there.
The Ruins are not an Egyptian temple, but an Aztec style complex with even some weird alien device functioning in the basement. This map also has the same dimensions and elements it had on N64, but the sliding slabs have been removed. Anyway, it looks as astonishing as Facility in Xbox 360.
Finally, a recent Xbox Live update also fixed another one of the several bugs that can be found in PDZ. Specifically, the cheat that allowed players to hide within the game’s geometry. Don’t panic, that glorious bug that makes enemies fly when they die is still there. And yes, we are serious about its gloriousness.
