Reggienator wants 007 on Wii

A tight barrier of legal issues should be knocked down

President of NoA Reginald Fils-Aime, best known as Reggie the Great, thinks that he can beat Sony, Activision, Metro Goldwyn-Meyer and Barbara Broccoli all by his own. While talking to MTV in a recent interview, Fils-Aime mentioned that Nintendo is already “exploring all the right issues” to bring GoldenEye to the Virtual Console.

This mission won’t be a piece of cake, anyway. Right after Rare declined to develop the videogame adaptation of the 1998 film Tomorrow Never Dies, Electronic Arts took the baton of the James Bond franchise. This relationship between 007 and EA ended recently around this year, when Activision got its licence to thrill. Because now it is probably up to them to decide whether if Nintendo can recover its 1997 hit for the N64 or not.

In many ways, the convulse world of the James Bond IP has been through a lot of mess in recent years. United Artists, the long-running major that historically kept the rights to distribute Bond in cinemas, closed and re-opened its doors losing the 007 series in the meantime. After decades of struggle against MGM, Sony Pictures obtained the rights to distribute Casino Royale and all the upcoming Bond sequels in cinemas, DVD and Blue Ray for the next millennium or so. What adds a new and annoying element in this endless equation. But who knows if it has actually something to do with anything at the end.

The only relevant piece of news for the moment is that Reggie “would love to see” GoldenEye on Wii. Time will say if he can battle the impossible.
