Chris and Tim Stamper have left Rare

Both founders leave to "pursue other opportunities"

According to Microsoft, Rare founders Chris and Tim Stamper officially left the company at the end of December. Former Senior and Creative Director respectively, the Stampers founded Ashby Computers Graphics (better known as Ultimate Play the Game) in 1982, the same British developer that evolved into the future Rare Ltd. in 1985 and have lasted until nowadays being one of the major gaming companies in Europe.

The Stampers haven’t comment on their immediate plans for their new professional life, being their only mentioned goal to “pursue other opportunities.” However, they have stated that their departure “will not impact the development teams at Rare.”

Veterans Mark Betteridge and Gregg Mayles will take the baton after the Stampers. Betteridge, who has been in the company for 19 years and has worked in titles such us Killer Instinct, Perfect Dark or Conker’s Bad Fur Day will be its new Senior Director. Mayles, famous for his leading role in games like Donkey Kong Country, Viva Piñata or the Banjo series, will take the Creative Director’s seat.

The MundoRare Staff wishes both Chris and Tim Stamper the best luck in their new journey, and thanks them on behalf of all Rare fans for all these years of splendid games, immense fun and unforgettable moments. Making great videogames is, after all, making joints for friendship.
