Killer Instinct on Wii?

Midway’s plans for Virtual Console spread KI debate

Midway have stated their interest on Wii’s Virtual Console in the recent Gamer’s Day conference held in Las Vegas. Their first obvious aim would be to launch old Mortal Kombat games for the Nintendo system, but following the conference fans everywhere have noticed the possibility that other Midway IPs may be chosen in the future. These include both Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct 2 original arcades.

So could Midway adapt the beloved Rare fighting games for Nintendo after all? The answer is that we don’t really know. Microsoft holds the rights over Killer Instinct among many other Rare IPs from the Nintendo era, but they never clarified if those rights include the whole franchise regardless of the original releasing platform or just the Nintendo-published software. Should this last option be the case, Microsoft won’t have any power to avoid a future release of Killer Instinct for Nintendo’s Wii.

This website asked Rare about this very same issue last year, but they were not allowed to respond. Microsoft America declined to make any statement about the restrictions of the rights held by the company, as well as the possible uses of the owned franchises in Xbox Live Arcade.

All this while we still wait for a damn Rare adaptation for the Xbox Live Arcade… and we don’t get even Jetpac.

That game I used to play with my cousin and we were kick ass fighters on KI, anD KI 2, and on that system as well when we were at the age of 5 or 8, now im 16, but my fav. characters are Sabrewulf, Jago, and Spinal. I would Prefer it on the Xbox 360 or Nintendo Gamecube
