Banjo release, year given?
Rare employee also talks about Stop 'n' Swop
One of Rare’s concept artists, Ryan Stevenson was recently interviewed by Gametrailers about Viva Piñata and Banjo 3. While nothing said was set in stone, we got some hints here and there and yet another mention of Stop ‘n’ Swop.
In regards to Viva Piñata’s original online plans, Stevenson said that “the trading was the most important thing we wanted to do, and that’s… we really didn’t want to confuse the issue; it was just all about the trading. That was the one thing we all wanted to put the emphasis on.” When asked about a sequel, Stevenson replied with “Absolutely, we’re going to continue on with the series… the team’s kind of just sitting back now and relaxing kind of after the game, so we’re still working out what we’re going to do next.”
In terms of Banjo 3, Stevenson tried to explain why the game will be different: “It’s still gonna be the same characters, it’s still gonna be the same thing, it’s just obviously it was so many years ago that Banjo was around, we’ve got a lot technology and a lot of new things to kind of try and pour into that world so that’s what we’re… trying to make it a richer playing game.” Stevenson also mentions that the new game will be a continuation of the previous Banjo titles, “It’s all part of the whole Banjo thing, it’s still the same characters, the same thing so umm… it’s a game for the people who appreciated the game years ago and also new people that kind of came in to the 360.” When asked if series villain, Gruntilda, will return, all he had to say was that we’d “have to wait and see.”
In what it was for sure a surprise, the interviewer decided to ask Stevenson about the long dead Stop ‘n’ Swop. With a rather interesting look on his face regarding the question, he answered “I’m not actually sure about the whole… ‘legistics’ of it, but kinda like pulling cartridges out and sticking other cartridges in. I think they decided in the end it probably wasn’t such a good idea.”
Finally, despite it never having an official release date, according to 1UP, Banjo 3 is mentioned to have a release year set for 2008, which is clearly not what everybody expected.
