Jetpac to be finally released on XBLA?
More than one year after it was initially suggested with PDZ
Not many days ago there was this guy, called Nick Burton, who ironically ended up being a worker at Rare, saying that there was something on the works for Xbox Live Arcade. Something that “felt like a Rare game.” There have never been many clues about what in the world was Rare planning for the Arcade, except for the possibility of Jetpac, since the game cameoed in Perfect Dark Zero. However, Jetpac has always been a Rare game. Heck, it was the company’s first game ever developed back in 1983. Of course it would feel like a Rare game. So Burton’s comment should have pointed to something else.
Or that would have been in a logical world.
A couple of days ago, Games Radar informed that some German rating board named USK has included Jetpac Refuelled as a new XBLA game to be launched in Xbox 360. All this short after Burton confirmed the existence of an XBLA game under development in Twycross. The listing on the USK’s official page indicates that the new game -defined as a shoot-’em-up- will be published by Microsoft and was approved for its rating on February 6th. It definitely feels like a Rare game. Rare’s Jetpac remade and upgraded like many other oldies adapted for XBLA before.
The main difference here is that Bizarre didn’t need a whole year to bring us their addictive Geometry Wars Evolved, nor Rare itself needed so much time when they included the very same Jetpac on N64’s DK64 cartridge, when no one asked for it. Sure, the game will probably feature a nice face lift in case they finally launch it, but we still expect those brand-new installments that they fancied about sometime.
