Leafos, Piñata’s hostess, best female character of the year
The game also nominated for three GDC awards
Finally, Viva Piñata wasn’t able to get the “Best Console Game of the Year” or “Family Game of the Year” prizes in the Annual Interactive Achievement Awards (AIAS) that were announced yesterday in Las Vegas, Nevada. But despite that it was nominated in six important categories, the game didn’t come back without his own stylish paperweight: Leafos, the charming tribal girl that hosts players in any Piñata’s garden, has earned the Outstanding Achievement in a Female Character Performance.
Louise Ridgeway, the woman behind the character, won the only prize that Viva Piñata managed to get, beating other female cuties in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Bully, Saints Row and Desperate Housewives.
Despite not being the best female character created by Rare, we should probably take this as a whole victory of Cuteness over all those sluts appearing in videogames nowadays. In fact, it’s amazing that a girl behind a mask that just uses her voice to welcome new players to every new garden in the game has won what seems to be the Miss Universe title in the videogames world. Cheers to Louise, and Leafos herself.
But we also have to bear in mind the categories in which Piñata couldn’t win; these were: Console Game of the Year (Gears of War), Outstanding Innovation in Gaming (Wii Sports), Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction (Gears of War), Outstanding Achievement in Visual Engineering (Gears of War) and Family Game of the Year (Guitar Hero 2).
Finally, this week we have also known which are the nomineed for the 7th annual Game Developers Choice Awards, that will take place on March 7 during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, California. Viva Piñata will compete in three categories:
- Character Design (against Final Fantasy XII, LocoRoco, Okami and Rayman Raving Rabbids)
- Game Design (versus Bully, Okami, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Wii Sports)
- Visual Arts (with Final Fantasy XII, Gears of War, Okami and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion)
