Peter Moore defends the importance of Rare

Random useless statements ahoy!

This week, both Peter Moore and Shane Kim shared some marketing junk-statements with the media out there about the significance of Rare titles for Microsoft. So, you shouldn’t expect to jump off your chair as you read breaking news in this article, since they are only new weird excuses to avoid the fact that Rare games doesn’t do well just because they are still in a hostile territory.

Microsoft’s corporate vicepresident Peter Moore had a whole monographic chat about Rare with Newsweek where he focused in the defence of the Twycross studio against critics for not being to be able to “regain former glory.”

According to Moore “people underestimate the platform-driving presence” of Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo as launch titles for Xbox 360. After accusing general media of giving Kameo too low scores, he emphasized that the game signalled that Xbox 360 “wasn’t going to be the same as Xbox 1, which was dominated by Mature-rated games.” He also added that for many people “it will go down in history as the Halo box or the shooter box.” As bad as it sounds…

When talking about game’s figures, he considered that Kameo has done well,” Viva Piñata, sales have been… fine” and Perfect Dark Zero hit our expectations from a sales point of view.” But then, he pointed out that Rare’s duo for launch “allowed us to get where we needed to go very, very quickly.”

In a different interview with Shacknews, Shane Kim made up a completely new –rather annoying- theory about the lower success of Rare titles in this new stage. He believes that Rare hasn’t done it that well just because Xbox 360 is too expensive (which could lead us to interesting marketing conclusions, right?).

Kameo and Viva Piñata have launched during the highest price point of the Xbox 360. […] We’ve got to get the console to a price point too that’s more mass market, and that’s going to happen over the next three to five years. […] When that happens, that’s when you’re really going to see Rare’s value showing through,” he assured. So, apparently, an expensive Xbox means low sales just for Rare titles, isn’t it? Hum. Don’t worry if you don’t catch the connection either…

Well, if you have been able to read through all that useless marketing bullshit, here is a prize: the only really informative titbit of the week! According to Kim, Banjo 3 will not make it this year (something that, anyway, we already told you last February, but at least this can be taken as the confirmation).

Expect a new empty-words festival as soon as Mr Loveday updates with a new Scribes!
