Rare makes multiple game denials before E3

The company toys with the idea of DK64 DS, though

A Scribes interruption between episodic Piñatapedia entries have finally offered Rare fans some of the first real news for some time now.

Well, to be honest, the gossips’ fun has been rapidly spoiled this time, since Mr. Loveday (undoubtedly annoyed by thousands of GoldenEye and Banjo XBLA emails) has decided to state, for the umpteenth time, that Rare is not working on Killer Instinct 3 and other titles.

“Purely out of contractual obligation, no, we’re not working on KI3, no, we don’t have a secret team in the basement finishing off JFG2, no, we’re not brainstorming an exciting sequel to It’s Mr. Pants and traditionally we’re not big players in the RPG market either. Until we’re ready to unveil some of the games beyond the new Banjo that we are working on, why not go back and sample some prime Rare goodness from the archives such as NES classics Time Lord or Super Glove Ball?,” Mighty Loveday stated.

This should surely be enough to shout the mouth to those bitches expecting half a dozen Rare titles in the upcoming E3, right? Well, unfortunately for him/us, we can be sure that this won’t help when next week another site comes up with new groundless rumours looking for some notorious feedback. So, if you prefer to ignore the official denials from Rare employees, then yes: KI3 is in development just for you!! Hooray… or something!

On the other hand, a port of DK64 may be in the works for the glorious Nintendo DS if the words “who knows what will happen?” mean something. Well, it was probably obvious that this was going to be the title to take over the Rare legacy in the DS after DKR DS, since it’s easier for Rare not having to find a new publisher for their DS games by avoiding the use of non-Nintendo related franchises.

And speaking of DKR, Rare has confirmed again that they own the rights for “all the major characters who aren’t Kongs or Kremlings.” That means that we can still get some Tiptup or Bumper cameos in BK3, or our fave tiger’s first outing in Timber’s Madacascarian Adventures (MundoRare’s exclusive coverage of it retained for legal reasons).

What, apparently, we won’t get are the new polar piñata species featured in the latest episodes of the Viva Piñata TV series, despite they were in fact created by the company: “Yes, the Polollybear is a Rare creation. There’s some Pengums and a Jeli to come, too,” a member of the VP team confirmed. Those creatures probably lie now in the limbo of Rare canned stuff, along with the game update that never was to visit our friends’ gardens. And despite being pessimistic on this issue after months without any Piñata marketplace offerings, the team still asks us to “keep our fingers crossed” for the future of the game. So, okay. Let’s keep some hope.
