DK64 DS in the making?

Will the infamous collect-a-thon collect more fans this generation?

Recently in Rare’s Scribes, when asked about a Donkey Kong 64 DS, Loveday responded with a rather cryptic “Who knows what will happen?” Quite odd in itself, since in that same edition Loveday flat out denied sequels to Killer Instinct, It’s Mr. Pants, and Jet Force Gemini.

To add more fuel to the overwhelming desire to collect a tedious amount of items multiplied by five again, a recent issue of N-Gamer harbored a question regarding DK64’s possible release on the Wii’s Virtual Console. The answer they gave was that “the latest whisperings from Rare would suggest it’s more likely to show up on DS.”

Now for the reality check that some people need since they believe this is a brand new rumor and even, dare I say, confirmation. The answer itself from a personal standpoint makes it directly related to the Scribes quote mentioned a few months ago. Add that to the fact that videogame magazines rarely get new information these days thanks to the Internet, and it can be clearly seen that this rumor didn’t originate from the magazine itself, yet from Scribes.

True, there have been some instances in the past where Rare’s cryptic comments have come true in various senses of the word (the continuation of the DKC ports, DS development, the continuing development of the GBA games after the acquisition), so it may very well be that DK64 DS will come to a DS near you in 2008/2009. For now, all we have on that possibility is a quote in Scribes that flat out didn’t deny it in an edition that did deny other most wanted games, and a letter in a magazine relaying that as if it was brand new information. So for those masochists that played DK64 over again more than once, fear not! You may be able to relive the tediousness and plain evil that was Beaver Bother all over again!

MundoRare will, as always, keep you up to date on any new Rare titles.
