Mumbling bear, blocky bear, cancelled bear…
...and Sabreman Stampede recognized?
With the end of the summer here and everyone ready (and not ready) to go back to various boring learning centers, Loveday’s decided to ease the pain by posting a brand new edition of Scribes. With actual ANSWERS.
To start us off, Loveday answered two questions regarding the long-rumored Banjo-Kazooie DS. When questioned about the chances of having a BK title on Nintendo’s handheld, the answer given by the Banjo team was that “There is a remote chance. Not sure how remote we are talking here – it could be as remote as people stopping asking about SnS (pretty remote), someone not moaning about how the new Banjo isn’t as good as the old one (extremely remote) or the England football team winning the world cup again (not going to happen)…” Not only that, but in a world where Scribes is all about vague hints towards the future, Loveday reveals that a Banjo-Kazooie DS was once in development, stating that they “considered a Banjo remake (actually did some work towards it) but then dropped it in favour of the current fresh approach,” with them focusing development on Viva Piñata DS instead.
In terms of Banjo Kazooie 3, we’ve learned a couple of substantial things from Scribes. In expected excitement, “THE MUMBLING WILL REMAIN!”, finally ending the suspense on whether or not the continued tradition will live on. In what can be considered as the most divided news in this edition, Loveday confirms that the blocky-style in BK3 is here to stay, claiming that “when you see the rest of the game and what it’s about, the look will make more sense.” Not sure what that actually means, but let the Gruntilda witch magic theories ensue!
Last, but not least, Sabreman Stampede is once again acknowledged, and the implications in Scribes seem to make us believe that it’s truly gone. Stating that back in 2003, “At the time, it was still coming out in some form. What’s to redeem? You can only work with the facts you have.” In addition, a Snippet in the Snippets section mentions that “a game for Xbox” that David Wise was working on at the time of the Musician Tepid Seat was probably Sabreman Stampede, if the “There were monkeys and rhinos in it” quote and the fact Stampede was to be a retooled Donkey Kong Racing are of any indication. Rest In Peace, Sabreman Stampede. We hardly knew ye in these past 6 years.
