Cyclical PD2 rumours strike back!

An Indian site talks about a late 2008 unveiling for a darker Jo

Rumour time once again! GameGuru, an Indian gaming site, has suddenly gained much attention this week by announcing that some of their alleged sources can guarantee the existence of a Perfect Dark sequel in the works for X360. As usual, everybody has already gone crazy, so let’s go ahead with some calm deliberations, okay?

According to that site, in that sequel Joanna would be “darker than usual” and choices would have “a huge impact on the gameplay, giving players a variety branches in the storyline itself.” Well, this wouldn’t be that weird at all, since it’s something that we already were able to experience in Perfect Dark Zero, with an adventure mode being sometimes quite different depending on the selected level of difficulty.

Anyway, the site goes even further by stating that an official announcement “is due sometime during the latter part of next year,” and even quotes a former Viva Piñata developer to support that theory (“Hopefully our next game will be out… We’ll be able to talk about something next year”), while those guys were probably referring to Banjo 3 (which is being developed by the same team).

Accepting that Perfect Dark 2 was really in development, we dare say that it’s a little premature to propose an unveiling date for it. We must remember that despite Rare showing a BK3 teaser trailer more than a year ago, the company is obviously not able to give any hint about it yet, much less a release date.

And as for the rumour itself. Well, since GoldenEye, Rare has always had at least one shooter in the works. So it wouldn’t be such a surprise that Perfect Dark 2 was in development, specially since the prequel for Xbox 360 has already sold a million and a half units in two years, and it seems there won’t be any Halo 4 in the horizon for some time. A new PD title is something that is going to happen any time in the future without a doubt. But when? That’s another story.

So, we recommend everybody not to go crazy with this issue, since before any possible PD sequel, Rare has other important offerings to show, the next ones being Banjo-Kazooie 3 and Viva Piñata DS.

Also, this is probably the best moment to announce that one of our two fave secret agents will return this very same year, since MundoRare will feature a really especial GoldenEye 10th Anniversary in the coming weeks. So, Jo, take it easy, because James is taking the lead for now.
