Amateur developers on the sights of Rare and Microsoft

Silicon Minds contest is now open to all future game designers

Microsoft has chosen its two most independent studios, Lionhead and Rare, to lead a new contest that gives people the chance to become a professional videogame designer and win an internship at their favourite developer’s facilities.

Microsoft Research Cambridge in collaboration with Microsoft XNA and the cited studios are looking for talented new designers who can develop an Xbox 360 game using XNA Games Studio 2.0, based on the theme of artificial intelligence.

The prize is available up to five finalist teams, which will receive an interview for a three-month internship at Microsoft Research Cambridge, Lionhead or Rare studios starting this summer, a remuneration of $3,000 per team, a trip to the Games Developer Conference 2008 (where they will be able to show their project) and a one-year subscription to the XNA Creators Club for each team member.

Registration for this contest opened on December 14th, 2007 and the submission entry period will close on January 27th, 2008. Anyone over 16 is allowed to apply, but the games have to be in English. For more details, visit the official website of the Dream-Build-Play 2008 competition.
