Banjo-Kazooie 3 “won’t be a traditional platformer”

Classic locations unveiled, alongside a revelation of a dead BK remake

Valentine’s Day has come and gone. You either spent it with the love of your life, got dumped by the love of your life, or you just flat out don’t care about the day that passed. Whatever the situation, Rare has made sure to make your heart jump with joy with a new edition of Scribes! Like the past edition of Scribes, there’s so much information in this edition that we decided to split it up into two articles again. Onwards with the Banjo information in my favorite way to do so: list form!

  • Gregg Mayles, head of the BK3 team, starts giving some hints about what we can expect from the new title: Banjo won’t be a shooter (unless we sell no copies like Ghoulies and out of desperation give him a gun for the next game) but it also won’t be a traditional platformer. We somewhat grandly like to think that it will be a different take on the genre. Some would say a brave gamble but I’m confident it’s the right decision, and when people see it I’m sure they will say ‘although the old games are clearly brilliant, this new one is even better. So good in fact that I am going to sell all my worldly possessions and give the money to the Banjo team.”
  • It was already known that BK3 would offer some multiplayer options, except it won’t be the kind of games that we could enjoy in Bajo-Tooie. Mayles increases the hype by stating that “your multiplayer hopes will be answered. The ‘new direction’ that Banjo is taking should offer a multiplayer experience unique to anything currently available.”
  • Various characters and locations from Banjo-Kazooie will return, such as Clanker, “the snowman from Freezeezy Peak, the Mad Monster Mansion and of course videogames’ premier toilet – Loggo.” Notice how all of those locations had a Stop ‘n’ Swop egg…
  • If Rare is to be believed, there will be “a volcano with double entendres.” In conjunction with that, when asked for a level of wackiness a la Cloud Cuckooland, Loveday responded: “Yes, if you like inflatable sheep and polystyrene buildings.”
  • Confirmed once again from Scribes is the return of Spiral Mountain. New to the re-revelation this time, however, is a mention of cactuses running amok in the visit to the mountain again. And yes, they might be running. It wouldn’t be like Rare to not put googly-eyes on the painful bastards.
  • Humba Jumba and Mumbo Jumbo have been reconfirmed; yet Jamjars is probably not returning, as he’s been “fired for being too annoying.”
  • Robin Beanland is helping out Grant Kirkhope on New Banjo Game.

In what deserves a second paragraph, the new Banjo title apparently started life as a remake of the original Banjo-Kazooie game for the Xbox 360. It didn’t get past the preliminary stages because it was at that point that the team decided to make a new game.

Well, that’s it folks. Sucky Valentine’s Day or not, hopefully Rare put a smile on your faces. Stay tuned for part 2, but until then check out Rare’s Scribes in the meantime while you wait.

Im very very upset that Banjo-Kazooie 3 won’t be a Traditional Platformer like the old days anymore. Rareware’s never gonna give a damn about their fans anymore. They’re making Banjo FUCKIN’ Kazooie 3: Nuts & Bolts. It’s gonna look like the two PlayStation 2 games, Rathet & Clank and Jax X. Which These two PS2 Games are own by Insomnaic and Naughty Dog. Microsoft set Rare up ’cause they force rare to make a new Banjo game and to get rid of the old banjo & kazooie look and put the new look in and new characters. We’re going to try to bring rare back to nintendo & the gamecube. Banjo-Kazooie 3: Nuts & Bolts has to be stopped before it’s too late. Nintendo & Gamecube, We’re bringing rare back to your console. Mirosoft is a liar and a theif. They stole your rareware games from you. Microsoft are traiters. They’ll call you names and laugh in your faces even smile meanly in your faces. Rareware shoulda never left from you two in the first place. Mirosoft needs to leave rare alone and get back to their bungie company. And Grant McLachlan, IT’S NOT AWESOME, IT’S AWFUL!
