Microsoft willing to launch GoldenEye XBLA
Nintendo's wishes are not clear, though
Microsoft has decided to add some new details to their recent comments on GoldenEye XBLA, making out of them an even more official statement about an, oddly enough, still unofficial game. As we all knew, they are more than willing to release the acclaimed James Bond title, but on this particular matter, they have no choice but wait and see what the powers that be have to say. Ironically, those powers may have nothing to do at all with either 007 or Xbox.
“We would love to release GoldenEye on Xbox Live Arcade” said a Microsoft representative approached by Rare, who kindly provided us with this information. “There is no truth to the rumour of plans to release GoldenEye on Xbox LIVE Arcade. While we share the gaming community’s enthusiasm over the possibility, we do not have the necessary rights to release the game on Xbox Live Arcade.”
But who would deny the possibility of making zillons of easy dollars just by letting them release an (as we also know) already finished game? Who is the one that stands in the way? This source states that “the rights to the title are shared between Microsoft and Nintendo.” That was certainly unexpected. So is Nintendo legally preventing this release after all? The guy is conclusive about this one: “You will have to contact Nintendo for comment.”
Although, according to this, Nintendo still has some legal power over GoldenEye 007 and its future adaptations, the idea still sounds somewhat odd to us. But for now, it is the official story. We will keep you posted on that particular episode as soon as we gather more information.
Microsoft also wants to recall their opinion about the highly anticipated news report from Xbox World 360 magazine: “The story planned by Xbox World 360 is based entirely on rumour and speculation. Unfortunately, we were never contacted by the publication to confirm information or participate in the story in any way, as we would have confirmed that we do not have the necessary rights to release GoldenEye on Xbox Live Arcade.” Funny to hear this, considering that the website Computer and Videogames is bragging about some Microsoft comments that seem to be included in the upcoming article.
On the other hand, it is also fair to remind that it doesn’t seem to be Xbox World’s intention to confirm any possible release of the game, and the updates on their article do nothing other than emphasize what half of the internet has been saying for the last two months. Basically, gamers everywhere need to know how great it would be to get this game.
But then again, there are no plans to release it at the moment and there is nothing that Microsoft can do about it.
In the meanwhile, we can all dream about what it could be with every new picture that pops out.
