Rare’s neglect saucily revealed in Scribes

Leafos' VPDS absence, and some missed SFA and Refuelled encounters

Missed us? The highly anticipated (in some countries) Part 2 of the Valentine’s Day Scribes is among you. Despite the majority of this particular Scribes edition being entirely focused on Banjo, there are quite the tidbits here and there. Be prepared to find out what could’ve been, what won’t be, and what will never be. Hold on to your seats, because it’s coming at you right now in my favorite form: list form once again! You know you love it, and if you don’t, you damn well will in time.

  • When asked what villagers will return in Viva Piñata DS, Gary Richards responded that “many [of] the familiar faces from the 360 version are all present in the DS version,” except for Leafos. After the hispanic diva won Rare the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences reward, why the injustice, Rare?
  • On a StarFox Adventures-related note, do you remember the anticlimactic General Scales fight that you never fought? Chalk it up to the dreaded 2002 acquisition itself! From Scribes: “We ran out of dev time due to the looming Microsoft buyout so we had to wrap up the game and just focus on one final boss.” As if there really needed to be more fuel to the fire that happened more than 5 years ago.
  • There was a point in time where Jetpac Refuelled had 4 players at once, but for unexplained reasons, the Refuelled team decided to remove it. Furthermore, there are no plans for downloadable content for the game.
  • Regarding a Conker or Banjo game on the DS, surprisingly there was no flat-out denial. Just a “maybe.” As far as a Donkey Kong game on DS, Rare has acknowledged that Paon seems to be handling the DK franchise.
  • No Scribes edition seems to be complete without the obligatory asking of whether or not Killer Instinct will make a comeback; yet this time it didn’t involve the highly-anticipated third version of the game, luckily coming out when hell re-freezes over. Loveday responded that there are “no plans to crowbar KI onto a format near you in the immediate future…” when questioned on a return of the Killer Instinct Arcade versions.

That’s it for the seemingly important things that you’ll be referring to for when Scribes updates 5 months from now. In case you’ve missed it, you can catch this edition on Rare’s very own website.
