Ladies and gentlemen prefer oldies

Who would’ve thought that?

Damn, this one was unexpected. People say that they want remakes rather than original games. Certainly, there have been quite some great remakes around over the last years. Titles like Resident Evil, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, the Phoenix Wright trilogy or Dead or Alive: Ultimate have been not just desirable updates, but wonderfully re-imagined videogames that stand on their own as classics. A similar phenomenon as the one Hollywood experienced during the sci-fi silver age with Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Thing or The Fly. You know, before the crap they make nowadays.

But let’s talk about our last poll. Only 39% of Rare fans (with 112 votes), want to see new franchises, while 61% of them (174 votes) go for the old games.

Anyway, this is a poll about Rare and it’s hard to ignore the fact that the new GoldenEye 007 is still out there, waiting for the green light. That game alone, plus many other widely accepted remakes that have become the norm for the Xbox Live Arcade, might have pushed some readers towards the remake option.

Rare’s Nick Burton shared his thoughts with us about it: “It’s fantastic to see so many people want more of our classic games to come to XBLA, it’s certainly food for thought when looking at what we might want to do in the future. But hey, what about the new? Could we satisfy you all by making remaking something retro, but with a new twist?” Still, either choice seems to be fine with him and his mates: “Regardless of the games being remakes or completely new, XBLA allows us to make smaller fun games and get them distributed to the community quickly, just like in the 80′ and 90’s when the only arcades were coin operated.”

Don’t hesitate to offer them below your comments about your chosen option, and of course don’t forget to participate in our new poll: In what kind of natural reserve would you like to see piñatas in the future?

By Grant McLachlan

I’d like to seem old games like Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie on the Live Arcade, old games with a test (like Jetpac Refuelled), and completely new games.

By Perfect Dark 0

a repolished version of original Perfect Dark for XBLA or a complete remake of the same title for Xbox 360 build from the ground up. That would be a dream come true.
