Microsoft could be working on Wiimote’s rip off

Rare designs the controller and avatar system, says MTV

Our own 360mote mock up!If what the MTV news channel reports is true, Microsoft could be putting the finishing touches to their own Wiimote project, which would have been in the making since last summer. And why should we give a damn about it? Because they also say that Rare itself is working on the controller’s design, the interface and Microsoft’s version of the Miis, the cute avatar system for Nintendo’s Wii. They also would have had some problems meeting deadlines, which sounds pretty much like Rare indeed. So if this is real, Nintendo has finally done it. They have begun their crusade of weird gaming to eventually end up with traditional games as we know them. Ok, that was pure catastrophism. But does the Xbox 360 need this stuff to be way better than the Wii, as it already is? No. Do they need it to hook in more buyers? Apparently, they think so.

Just like the MTV points out, it was a matter of time that strong rumours about Microsoft’s own Wiimote would start to surface, considering Wii’s overwhelming global success. Back in the day, Sony couldn’t wait to make a fool of themselves and they promptly announced their objectively crappy Sixaxis, which also included motion-sensitive technology to call it somehow. But Microsoft’s experiment seems to be much more ambitious. MTV’s source explains that “they want the usual assortment of Halo / Gears / Forza / whatever, just in waggle form. The whole thing is a colossal cluster.” Obviously, Microsoft “marketing want it so they can match the Wii point for point. The biggest parts of their marketing materials outline how easy it would be for third parties to port their Wii games to the 360.”

The guy even provided a sketch of the prototype controller, which currently looks like a carbon copy of Nintendo’s Wiimote. Seriously, anybody, if you people are going to clone this thing, at least don’t make it look like a second 90s TV remote duller than a priest’s fashion taste. What appears to be true is that, knowing that next-gen consoles are always ready to show off graphic improvements, the new Wiis would be more detailed that Nintendo’s minimalist approach. In addition, they would be associated with any title that incorporates the controller and create a standard style for the game, dictating its “entire look and feel,” whatever that means.

The MTV insists that several companies have confirmed this story and that they have been provided with development kits already. Also, they quote former Xbox spokesman Peter Moore when he mentioned to Game Informer that he “always realized that (making the Wiimote) was the right thing for Nintendo for what they needed to do to be successful in this next generation.” He also added that it was a “challenge” for Microsoft and that they had “plans” because it didn’t “come as a surprise.” Although taking into account how fond of making stuff up Moore was, maybe they should have chosen some other source to back up their theory.

But is it actually Rare the company behind this whole conspiracy? Right now, they are preparing a special presentation for the gaming press that could take place this very same week, so maybe we will know more about it soon.

Microsoft is a doomed company. Their business model dysfunctional.
Microsoft’s wild business model only works when you can eat or harm other companies.
Google said no, all companies should say no to Microsoft!

To compete with Google you need to be innovative, Microsoft is not, the problem is that Microsoft believes it has the power, it has not.
Only desperation now.
Innovative companies over the world, say no!
Don’t be fooled by their money. They are nothing worth.
Yahoo, don’t let a dying beast catch you!
