GoldenEye 007 voted the 006th best game of all time
Dull headline, I agree
The Bond title, still one of Rare’s most remembered hits, has been voted the sixth best videogame of all time by an extensive survey carried out by Game UK, MI6 reports. A fansite, not the intelligence agency.
Over 100,000 votes were cast, and Bond’s was only one of two film franchises represented in the Top 100. The other one was, naturally, Star Wars with the exquisite Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic as number 68 and the enjoyable Lego Star Wars: The Original Saga as number 58. On the downside, GoldenEye and Perfect Dark (#80) are the only Rare games that managed to enter the list. Although if we take a closer look, the winners are as questionable as always when it comes about this kind of public surveys.
- Call of Duty 4 (Multiformat)
- Zelda Ocarina of Time (N64)
- Final Fantasy VII (PSone)
- Grand Theft Auto IV (Multiformat)
- Super Mario 64 (N64)
- Goldeneye 007 (N64)
- Halo 3 (Xbox 360)
- Metal Gear Solid (PSone)
- Half Life 2 (Multiformat)
- Gears of War (Multiformat)
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has been chosen as the number one title of the entire history. The game is certainly amazing and clearly one of the best of the last year, but of all time? That may be going a bit too far. And in any case, it shows how predisposed people were to select modern games, still fresh in their recent memory. Grand Theft Auto IV and Halo 3 are also part of the Top 10, holding entries number 4 and 7 respectively. At least they are still good games. Nothing as painful as finding the dreadful Assassin’s Creed as the entry number 36, above titles like Shadow of the Colussus, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Monkey Island 2 or the original Mario Kart, to name a few.

I’m gonna agree that this list is pretty dumb, Call Of Duty 4 shouldn’t even be in the top 10 since it’ has done nothing new for video gaming at all.
I think Halo 1 or Halo 2 should have been on the lsit beofre Halo 3 aswell since Halo perfected FPS controls and Halo 2 changed online gaming for consoles.
Perfect Dark should have been in the top 10 aswell, but I guess it’s not as well known as Goldeneye.
