Rare acknowledges a third DS title in the making?

Don't place your bets on a new Piñata title

After the multiple confirmations that the next DS game from Rare, Viva Piñata Pocket Paradise, was -in fact- finished last October after only eight months of work, it was easy to think that the handheld team should be working on something else as we talk. But when we were already heading to the early speculation phase, Rare’s DS producer Paul Machacek saved us from the sharp claws of Scribes, and at least now we can skip one stage!

During the recent live-chat with the community sites, Machacek apparently confirmed that there is a new title on the way: “We are working on something else, but of course you wouldn’t expect me to discuss that here now, would you?” Abso-posi-lutely perfect!

Later on, when asked if the team considers Pocket Paradise to be the ultimate Viva Piñata experience on the DS he stated that they prefer to “see what happens to VPPP and VP2 when they release. Clearly, if we sell a gazillion of them then we would find it hard not to consider what to do next.” So, at least, we also know that for the time being it is not another Piñata title.

What could it be, then? The whole MundoRare staff cross fingers hoping they are not producing a remake of Donkey Kong 64, especially after the GoldenEye XBLA fiasco caused by Nintendo, since they would have to be the publisher (but we must recognize that, despite the chances being slim, a DKC4 would make our heart skip a beat!). In any case, we really look forward to either a brand new title or a sequel to an established franchise, rather than a third remake (we’ll give you all the cuddly Tribals you could ever ask for!)
