Composer Grant Kirkhope leaves Rare
He made the soundtracks for the Banjo series, PD or Viva Piñata
Unfortunately, bad news clouded what was meant to be Rare’s biggest E3 in serveral years. The resignation of any Rare employee is something we never like to hear, but when that person is one of the most recognizable names in the company, we can only feel quite upset about it. We are talking about Rare’s musician Grant Kirkhope, composer of the soundtracks for the complete Banjo-Kazooie series (including the soon to be released Nuts & Bolts), the original Perfect Dark for N64, Grabbed by the Ghoulies and Viva Piñata.
After completing the recording sessions for the new Banjo, he’ll leave the company this weekend, as he explains in his own MySpace blog:
Well everyone… It’s a very sad time, I have to tell you all that I’ve resigned from Rare. This Friday (18th) will be my last day at the company. Recording the stuff in Prague with Robin for Banjo has been my last task before I leave. Needless to say my time at Rare has been the most amazing and rewarding experience imaginable and I’m going to miss not being there.
Nearly 13 years ago now, Rare gave a long haired metal fan a chance that no-one else would and I am forever in their debt. I’ve worked with some fantastically talented people and it’s their creativity that has spurred me on to write and create the stuff I have… I really can’t put it into words. I wish the company and people there all the luck in the world!
While VP: Trouble in Paradise and BK: Nuts & Bolts will surely be a couple of fantastic compositions to say farewell to his professional chapter at Rare, we will certainly miss his music in all upcoming games.
From MundoRare, we’d like to thank him for all his unforgettable melodies and wish him the best luck on whatever he plans to do in the future!
