Sabreman Stampede and Battletoads GBA footage gets leaked!
Pulled Xbox Live Fall Dashboard update makes a round as well
Show of hands. How many of you were expecting to see a video of the former Donkey Kong Racing, Sabreman Stampede in this lifetime? Thanks to the power of YouTube, a user known as “transparentjinjo” has uploaded two videos of two canceled Rare titles, Battletoads GBA included, which we learned about from Ryan Firchau.
As you can see from the video, Sabreman Stampede may have shared the feature of riding animals from Donkey Kong Racing, but that’s all it seemed to share. As the video should imply however, it was far from a racing title as originally intended. You can see at the upper left corner after Sabreman takes a picture of a villager, the hub says “Aim,” “Size,” and “Clarity.” Obviously nothing resembling any racing game that Rare has done in the past.
Over here we have a less-than a minute video of Battletoads GBA, hinted at by Mr. Firchau as well. While the music sounds like a Battletoads game and looks like a Battletoads game… the graphics and toad himself look nothing like the amphibian heroes of yore. Also take into account the Banjo voice when he jumps, and it’s apparent and plausible that this video was taken very early in development. Possibly just as well, as while the gameplay mechanics look the same, the new look probably wouldn’t have won over old or new fans.
While we’re still on the subject of leaks, apparently a forum by the name of Maxconsole got their hands on the highly-anticipated new Xbox 360 Dashboard with the Rare avatars. Microsoft, not being happy about this, demanded that the leak be pulled down. Cheaters may never prosper, but leakers do. Well, sometimes.
