Dinosaur Planet should’ve been released as Dinosaur Planet

The game is probably “lost in limbo”

Ah, Dinosaur Planet. What first appeared to have so much potential at E3 2000 was turned into Star Fox Adventures, taking all the mythos Dinosaur Planet planned to have and adding barrel rolls and more from the Star Fox IP.

When Nick Burton was interviewed by Videogamer.com, he mentioned: “I would have loved to have seen Dinosaur Planet see the light of day as Dinosaur Planet, because I had so much emotionally invested in that because it was my first game.”

He also mentions that Dinosaur Planet was pushing the N64 even more than Conker’s Bad Fur Day, stating that “it would have been too slow in some places.”

Unfortunately for us, Burton states that “it’s probably one of those things that’s locked in limbo.”

And what a limbo it is. According to a Scribes from 2003, when asked if the original Dinosaur Planet would be released on the then-popular Xbox, Loveday responded: “Doubt it very much, and even if it was, it wouldn’t be the original DP - it’d be a version that had all the bits that made it into SFA replaced with new stuff. So essentially, no.”

Which is an utter shame in itself, but if a game published by Nintendo with logos and all can make it onto another competitor’s system, there’s maybe a slight glimmer of hope that we’ll maybe see Dinosaur Planet as it intentionally was meant to be. For now, consider it inbetween Banjo-Kazooie and Goldeneye 007 XBLA in terms of likelihoods.

Since they can’t use Fox and co. I truly hope someday Rare will make an astonishing game with the Dinosaur Planet franchise.

It’s a shame they wouldn’t be able to use Crystal anyway.

I really hope that someday Dinosaur Planet will finally see the light of day. Sucks that they would have to find a replacement for Krystal and Tricky (would they need to do the same for Scales too?) but it could still be done, right?
I hate Nintendo for pulling the plug on this idea for the sake of needing a new Starfox game…and also for ruining Krystal’s character. She doesn’t belong in an Arwing. She needs to belong to Rare again.
