Perfect Dark and Killer Instinct coming to XBLA?
Farsight shootings and Ultra Combos may be possible
Soon after Banjo-Kazooie for the XBLA was announced, the first thing that we found out in a day or so’s time is that 4J Studios was the publisher, and not Rare. Of course this begs the question: are Banjo-Kazooie (and Banjo-Tooie) going to be the only games ported to the Xbox Live Arcade?
Phil Spencer, General Manager of Microsoft Game Studios, had this to say recently regarding more titles hitting the service: “We do have the rights of the complete Rare catalogue (except GoldenEye 007). We’re studying all the possibilities to bring classic games from the past like Killer Instinct and Perfect Dark.”
While it’s not an outright confirmation, remember that 4J Studios, an external third party developer is porting two of Rare’s classics. Add that to Michael Johnson’s comment in our video interview about Rare’s lack of necessity to make ports, considering that all the work, design, etc. is already done, as well as all the creative assets at Rare and the higher ups working on new titles and you can see why it’s not out of the question to have a third party port past Rare titles.
As both a Killer Instinct and a Perfect Dark fan, I hope that eventually a third party will port both those classics, as well as KI2 (Arcade classics, please. Not the SNES/N64 ports). MundoRare will keep you updated as it breaks, and it’s certainly been breaking more than ever in the past two weeks!
