360 Avatars are restricted to family friendly titles
Future Avatar pain possible, but not in the cards
Bad news for the sadistic people in our fanbase who like shooting/knifing innocent characters in videogames like the Merchant from Resident Evil 4: just like the way Miis work in Wii games, they’ll only appear in E10 titles.
Xbox Live general manager, Eric Kilgore (what a name), says that “the final guide we have this year is to think of them in an ‘E10’ context. That doesn’t mean it won’t change – but this Fall they won’t be able to blow each other’s heads off.”
Regarding the option to have more than one avatar, Kilgore also stated that “the answer is a mixed one. From a user profile perspective you have one avatar for one profile. You can change you avatar whenever you want but if you want a new avatar you need a new profile.”
Another interview with John Schappert mentions a few interesting things, like how long the Avatar system has been worked on by Rare “a long time” and how it seems like a “logical evolution to our gamertags on Xbox Live.” Last but not least, he mentions how micro-transactions are definitely possible as the system goes along, possibly for more clothes and costumes and designs. But knowing Microsoft’s love for digital distribution, I wouldn’t rule it out.
That’s it for now regarding Rare’s latest future non-game. Until then, be sure to check out the decompressed pictures MundoRare is hosting, alongside our hands-on impressions!
