Dozens of real Avatars find their way to the Internet
Primetime postponed, Avatar searches, and a nearby chance at the NXE
News of the Avatars fall into three categories: those that want to see what the big deal is already, those who still want their old dashboards, and those good old indifferent 360 owners. For the former, this article is definitely for you.
Let’s start with a bit of bad news for those Avatar anticipators: Xbox Live Primetime will unfortunately not make it in time for November 19th. Originally planned to release on day one with a digital version of 1 vs. 100, Xbox Live Primetime is like a Virtual Game Show, where tons of players would compete against each other via Avatar for physical prizes. Certainly an interesting concept, and one we’re going to have to wait for until Spring 2009 to find out how good it is.
On to more interesting news for the stalker within all of us: some Avatars are already on the Internet. Just as we’re able to see our Gamertags and Profiles online, very soon we’re able to see our Avatars. The first Avatar we’ve found is no other than James “BigSheep” Thomas, recently serving as a programmer on Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise. We’ve developed an Avatar checker as well, which you can use to find if any of your VIP contacts already has a virtual alter-ego. Just take a look at all the new avatars in this new section!
Last but not least comes the opportunity to preview the New Xbox Experience as soon as this Friday. According to Major Nelson’s recent podcast: “Keep an eye on my blog next week. If you want to get your hands on [the NXE] early. That’s all I’m going to say.” Logically, Major Nelson updates about the Avatar news every Friday, so it goes without saying when and where you’ll have to constantly refresh. As always, MundoRare will keep you updated as it happens.
