A font size fix for Banjo is in the works
The development team rectificates and will release a patch
While playing the recently released Nuts & Bolts demo, you may have noticed the rather small font size. Or, more appropriately, you might have not, given the stalwart backlash from the community after giving up squinting at their small CRT sets.
Earlier this week, community manager George Kelion, after contacting the development team, brought bad news over NeoGAF forums by stating that -apparently- this was an issue that didn’t look like it would be changed: “I don’t want to bore you with the technical side of things (I really don’t understand it all myself), but the long and the short of it is that the text you see in the demo will be the same as that which you find in the retail version of the game,” he said.
While it’s disappointing nevertheless that this issue wasn’t caught in earlier focus testing, it especially seems poor form for such a central title in Microsoft’s lineup and given the expanded market they seem happy enough to target. At least, this wider testing made by users themselves served for a fair and quick rectification from Microsoft Game Studios PR, that Rare’s very own George Kelion gently forwarded us today to clarify the issue:
“It has come to our attention that people are exmeperiencing subtitle readability issues with Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts on Standard Definition TVs. We would like to assure you that contrary to earlier reports, we are aware of the issue and currently working on a title update to be released within the next 30 days that will fix it for those with Standard Definition TVs. We’re committed to ensuring all fans of the franchise are able to have the best experience possible with Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.”
Better late than ever, right? Now if they could just add a “press A” option after each sentence in the cut scenes, or at least slow down the velocity of those texts, it would be just perfect.

Thankyou, Rare! At least now even us cheapo STD TV players have the chance to enjoy the game to its fullest.;)
Will this update also appear on later printed DVD discs, without having to download? Just interested.

I guess I’ll just play the original N64 game till the patch comes out.

That won’t be possible. The music isn’t interactive, so it would be all weird and the timing would be way off.
