Don Mattrick reveals the ‘true’ creator of the Avatars

Avatar Store to Launch in Spring

The New Xbox Experience is launching next week, with features dropping out of the launch left and right. So what is still left for you to enjoy when your Dashboard is reborn again next Wednesday? Avatars, of course! The new feature; perhaps the most talked about of them all, is still enroute to be featured on the NXE, and more news is being revealed about the new feature.

First off, we finally have an answer to who really did start this whole “Avatar” trend. It wasn’t Nintendo, and it wasn’t Rare, so you fanboys just put down your signs now. It was that crafty Don Mattrick all along! In an interview with OXM, Microsoft’s Senior Vice President, Mattrick had this to say: “I’m claiming to have invented avatars! I did 4D Sports Boxing! Do you know what 4D Boxing was? Hey, you should be writing this! That was me.”

How silly of us! How could I possibly forget 4D Sports Boxing! My favorite 4D boxing game of all time! Welp, the riddle is solved. We can all go back to our lives now. God knows, I haven’t seen my wife and kids in a month or six.

In other news, Microsoft has announced plans to launch an Avatar Store, planned for this Spring. The store would be a vending place for game and IP related items of clothing from several different developers, or to buy non-game related items for your avatars. Are you a football player? Buy your virtual you a football, and no one on Xbox Live will ever doubt your gridiron prowess ever again. Also up for sale will be customizable animations and emotions you can give your Avatar. If your Avatar is too happy, you can teach him about the wonderful emotion of Anger for a mere 160 MS points! Or, somewhere around there. There has been no official pricing for Avatar-related items yet.

In the coming days, you can expect to see some NXE beta impressions by two of our lovely staff members here on MundoRare. I would have gotten into the beta myself, if it wasn’t for the fact that I actually like to sleep, and thought I might be able to sign up for it in the morning. Silly me.
