Xbox Originals may get Grabbed by the Ghoulies

Possible Achievements may justify the asking price

This past weekend, a look at PEGI’s site (basically, the European ESRB with illustrations depicting why a game is bad) showed that Grabbed by the Ghoulies was rated for the Xbox 360. Seeing how a sequel would probably be named something different (like Nuts & Bolts’ fictional “Grabbed by the Ghoulies II”), it leaves either an XBLA re-release or a re-release on Xbox Originals.

PEGI rating for Grabbed by the Ghoulies

It’s completely possible that it might be the latter, despite claims that the Xbox Originals service was going to be discontinued back when we went to New York and found out about it. Yet as those who’ve paid attention know, the service is still alive and (sparsely) updating.

There’s also been a rumor floating around that Microsoft might consider retroactively adding Achievements to Xbox Originals with 500 Gamerscore Points later this year in the winter. If this is also true, then that possibly means that the underdog of Rare’s console outings since 2002 will be coming out this year with achievements that could potentially make the high price of 1200 MS Points worthwhile. Here’s hoping for a new audience as well as achievements for playing the game and beating the devilishly hard Challenge 21.

I Wish this to become more than a rumor, just adding some GS points into the Xbox games would add some great replay value to those great old Xbox titles.

That, of course, taking for granted that the Xbox originals would continue working exactly the same as their physical counterparts; I hope they don’t make us pay for games that we already have.

sorry Alarik but this IS microsoft here… if the game were to be updated the only way (i know how) it could be done is to re release them on live, and they couldn’t make games THAT big free, they can’t assume everyone has that game so “we might as well give it to them for free” because most people- like in ghoulies case: dont have, nor ever did have it. plus they made us pay like ten bucks for banjo kazooie an N64 game, so why would a newer console’s game be free? i agree with you that it should be free… but it won’t be- whether or not anything i just said is right or makes sense, bottom line is: none of it will be free hahah

Yeah, but take for instance: everytime you play an xbox game (neither ‘originals’ or physical format) in 360, the console later on has updated statistics according you actually played that game. It may be some way (i must say i don’t have an exact idea how these things do work) to make a patch or something that records the progress you do in some point of the game and translates it later on as achievements.

Of course it would take an extra effort from the developers to add some achievements to their old games (here i guess MS couldn’t do it itself due to copyright issues, dunno), but at least that would be something -remotely- expectable from first parties like Rare.

Anyway, its all speculation, it seems weird to have an xbox game launched exclusively via XBLA (they have all gone directly to Originals), moreover if it’s Ghoulies we’re talking about, a game that despise its excellence, had rather poor sales (kind talking here)
