Games will get Avatar clothes as “Achievements”

Plenty of ways to customize your Avatar in the near future

It’s been three months since the Avatars have been implemented in the New Xbox Experience, and Microsoft isn’t done supporting them. Not by a long shot.

For the present, the Avatar Editor has gotten a ton of new clothes, including rings, jeans, caps, and, if you’re a huge fan of football -as the Europeans say it- clothes reflecting what may or may not be your favorite national teams. All of this comes at the very nice price of free. Further details can be found on Major Nelson’s site and on the upper left of this page.

For the future (and what the main focus of this article is about), soon games will be able to dispense clothes and accessories just as games presently dispense Achievements. According to Lee Musgrave, Rare’s head of Art, “in time… games will be able to give away clothes and accessories just like Achievements.” Specifics aren’t known at this time, but as far as the process is currently going, Stacey Law states that the are “currently working with multiple partners who have expressed interest in using Avatars.” For the moment, this seems like a good idea, but a little gimmicky if you really love dressing up your Avatar much more than you like doing it to yourself. Ask yourself this if this is the case: would you really buy games you don’t care about just for the clothing? Again, there’s nothing specific to base that on, but from this alone, it seems a little gimmicky from my perspective.

Last but not least, pictures on what could’ve been the NXE.

So, what’s new besides Snoop Dogg being part of the old NXE? If you have eyes, the answer’s pretty simple: next to nothing would’ve changed. While it’s to be commended that those in charge saw it fit to keep the old Dashboard for nostalgia’s sake, it’s pretty safe to say that it wouldn’t have fit in with the “New” of the “New Xbox Experience.” Still, it’s fun to look at what could’ve been, and for once, as Rare fans, enjoy what we have now instead of mourning it.

I would like to see more Rare related clothing for Avatar’s. Specifically the Leather Jackets that the Carrington Institute Operatives wear in PDZ. You know, like the ones Joanna and Jonathan wear with CI logo and all.

You think your so smart don’t you ya little prick, also cool, well your not and complaining on a fansite won’t make your views of a “great” Rare happen. It’ll make you look dumb for thinking that complaining here will make you look cool and so much above others. I suggest get a life and think of good metaphors to use. Fansites are for people who admire the work of what the company has done, not for constant whiny complaints, do that on the mainsite since that actually might help there. I hate Sega’s recent work but I don’t cry to their fansites cause of it I just don’t bother looking into what they have to say cause I REALLY AM NOT INTERESTED. If you know you hate their recent work and will hate what they do, why bother looking to complain? Are you that much of a lonely loser? GROW UP AND STOP THINKING THAT YOU WHINING AND BEING A GAY LITTLE SMARTASS WILL MAKE YOU LOOK COOL.

Iv actually lost a bit of respect for Rare after they created avatars, & im a big Rare fan one of the few who enjoyed their more recent games. I just feel they look a bit cheap & kinda annoying, oh and whats with the way they stand lol.
