Joanna Dark is just as sexy as James Bond
Either that, or guys and gals divide themselves when playing FPS
Now that Bond-related news are coming out of nowhere once again, it appears to be a good time to comment on our last poll’s results. As you may remember, we asked you what you think it was best for Rare after so many years: stick to Joanna Dark or get back to the James Bond licence developing adaptations of, let’s say, the upcoming Daniel Craig films.
While 007 seems to be experiencing a second coming in cinema –but that’s a very hypothetical tense, as Quantum of Solace sucked hard–, what is painfully clear is that he never topped GoldenEye in the gaming world. Actually, he hasn’t even come close to it in nearly 12 years so far. Therefore, many fans of the original N64 game still praise it and remember their disappointment when Perfect Dark was announced instead of the adaptation of Pierce Brosnan’s Tomorrow Never Dies. That was, however, a bittersweet turn of events, as Perfect Dark soon proved to be just as good as GoldenEye, if not simply better, on many aspects.

We are currently living the second twist on this silent war of tastes, since Nintendo broke countless hearts by boycotting GoldenEye’s promising remake for the Xbox Live Arcade. But what’s really interesting about all this is that it actually happened barely two years after Perfect Dark’s prequel, Perfect Dark Zero, failed to live up to many people’s expectations. That being the case, we were wondering what you guys’ feelings are right now. And the results have been utterly surprising.
Should Rare get the Bond licence again?
- No doubt. (194 votes) – 47%
- It’s better to have freedom plotwise with Perfect Dark. (216 votes) – 52%
Perhaps the fact that fans of both IPs were equally satisfied and disappointed at some point may explain such a close vote. Although in any case, it also means that they couldn’t really screw up anything with Perfect Dark Zero if so many people are still willing to see more of the lovely Jo Dark’s adventures. As Rare’s Duncan Botwood pointed out: “that makes me very happy, knowing that a game like Perfect Dark can inspire as much affection as a Bond licence amongst Rare’s fans.”

honestly ether would be fine.. but i doubt rare ever will get the bond franchise back because rare only works for microsoft and the ds, so if they did want a james bond game, they would choose a publisher who could deliver on all consoles im sure, plus microsoft doesnt assign rare games like nintendo did, they let rare do their own thing (which judging on the fan base being completely split these days) could be considered a good or bad thing they have so much freedom. but ether way they dont get game requests/jobs any more like they did in the past for diddy kong, mickeys speed way, donkey kong, james bond.. etc.

Although Rare has stated they want to focus on new IP’s in the future, they just have to make another Perfect Dark. Even tough PDZ had some rough edges and just wasn’t done when they shipped it, I think the Perfect Dark franchise has jet untapped potential to become the next Halo and regain it’s pride among today’s best FPS titles.
