Rare Engineers and Artists are compromised
Rare’s 4 projects currently at work “despite the changes”
Unless you’re incredibly rich, the economy as of late has been bound to affect you somehow. As the previous article on this subject stated (before Ghoulies became an obsession for the 2nd time for some of our staff members), Rare is no exception to this either. Following the announcement that a restructure was in order from Microsoft themselves, 12 positions have been lost from both the engineer and artist positions, “and the company is also reducing the number of project leads.” However bad this may seem, GamesIndustry.biz points out in their article that the employees have been asked “to reapply for positions elsewhere within the company.”
The good thing is that the four projects in development (that we mistakenly said were past projects; we apologize for the confusion) are still on board, and that “original IP would not be sacrificed by MGS in favour of working on popular franchises,” according to one Chris Lewis from Microsoft.
In the end, losing your job, regardless of whether or not you can get another rapidly, is always a tough ordeal to go through. MundoRare wishes those the best of luck in finding new jobs as fast as possible.

Comment by billy — 27.Feb.09 @ 6:06 pmthe 4 games they are developing are
Game#1- not yet known
game#2-not yet known
game#3-not yet known
game#4- killer instin– I mean not yet known.
who knows maybe they’ll announce them next month, or for E3.
BTW this article shows how much the economy sucks right now. DAMN hope Rare will survive.
lol Its highly unlikely it will be killer instinct. they have been making fake rumors since like what…. 1995? and they still do to this to this day they would have said or shown something by now if it was real, doesnt that tell u somethin?? LOL rumors SINCE THE 1990′S LOL!! and its now 2009? since when does a rumor last for 12 years?? we all know it was fake to begin with.
Comment by gamer2 — 10.Mar.09 @ 10:17 pmwell though it’s been for that long, more and more rumors have been appearing so who knows. For example rumors or jokes about another Rocky film were talked about for years, and look after many years it got another film. so just cause a rumor has been around for long doesn’t mean it won’t ever happen.
Comment by saicambanjo — 10.Mar.09 @ 10:37 pmbut by then know one will even know what killer instinct was. it will have faded from existance. by that time we may have flying cars or the world will have ended and then they cant make it. this generation would be the best time to release it, with ki fans still around and there are many and they would love to see a sequel this decade not 10,20 or 100 years from now. if they keep holding back this long by then know one would of heard of it or care less about it. fighting games may not even be around anymore. the only well known fighters now are sf4 and mkdeadly alliance and nows the best time to compete with fighters to keep fighting games popular. they shoul d not tease fans this way. their like the boy who cryed wolf soon people will stop caring and releasing it will be pointless
Comment by gamer2 — 11.Mar.09 @ 3:04 amoops did i say deadly alliance? sorry i meant mk vs dc ahhaha!!!!!!!!! well at least midway were willing to continue an mk game unlike rare who still doesnt realise how amazing a new ki would sell its such a shame really. even during such a stressfull time in the economy, a new ki would make them invincible of getting hurt from this economy, you know just saying.
Comment by gamer2 — 11.Mar.09 @ 4:39 ammeh so what? no offence but if your entire income relies on a company salary then obviously you are going to be screwed when they give you the boot…Companies are not loyal to their workforce, they will drop you like a lead weight at the first sign of loss.
Freelancing although much tougher to start, is way smarter as you are receiving income from many different clients. More independent income sources = less risk
working a job ain’t the stable safehouse people think it is
