Sequel to Nuts & Bolts probably later rather than sooner

Scribes in time for Valentine’s

Scribes has arrived in time to give you souls longing for love in all the wrong places. With Nuts & Bolts being the major release for the company despite its less-than-stellar sales, it’s definitely safe to assume that this article of Scribes (in bullet-point form, no less) will focus on the building duo the most. Without further ado:

  • The wait for the next Banjo game will be a while, if the “Banjo needs another well-earned rest” comment from Luke is to be taken at face value.
  • Donkey Kong Racing could be made one day, but it’s a lot more complicated than we appear to believe, due to their relationship with Nintendo now compared to when they were still with the company. And also their relationship since the Goldeneye XBLA fiasco.
  • At the moment, a Nuts & Bolts PC port doesn’t appear to be in the works, nor are there any plans to release more Rare titles on the PC, “or at least no plans of which I’m aware,” according to Loveday. “That’s not a blanket policy from this point onwards – we (and MGS) weigh up these things on a case-by-case basis,” he adds.
  • One of the biggest bits of news is also one of the bits best served cold: according to Shelley from Rare, “it is unlikely that Banjo will be seen on the Virtual Console.” Again, after what happened with losing GoldenEye, it’s hard to be surprised at the lack of Banjo on Nintendo systems.
  • Scribes backs up their lack of DS development (for the moment), stating that Banjo (or DK64) on the DS can happen, but it doesn’t mean that it will. “A DS incarnation of Banjo could possibly happen at some point. I don’t personally know of any plans to make one,” says Steve.
  • Rare’s apparently expecting to hear about a Nuts & Bolts CD “soon.” Yet, why wasn’t this in the cards soon after the game’s release instead of now?
  • One of the challenges that was never realized was called ‘Don’t Bring Your Kids To Work Day’, which had Groggy, Soggy, and Moggy involved.
  • The official name of the lost world in Nuts & Bolts is called “Weird West.” Old news for some, new news for others.
  • On the Viva Piñata front, there were plans to have every single piñata getting a Sour counterpart, but at the end of the day, they decided to focus on the Sour piñatas we have now.
  • Banjo-Tooie XBLA will have the multiplayer modes. Whether or not they’ll be online is still a mystery.
  • Loveday denies Killer Instinct 3. Again. According to him, “it’s probably not on the cards until we can spare the time, resources and manpower to sit down and amass a damn good set of ideas of how best to proceed with it and then actually go ahead and do it, note to self, might want to phrase that a bit more elegantly next time.”
  • Dinosaur Planet originally had “racing elements,” yet Star Fox Adventures reportedly still had those the way Rare originally intended.
  • If you’ve been wondering why Rare hasn’t been promoting their self-made Avatars much like they didn’t with DKR DS, it’s because they’re “supposed to leave all Avatar promotion to Microsoft.”

Dare we say there’s a good amount to talk about, not to mention that the best Banjo questions will probably be answered with the upcoming Tepid Seat. Until then, check out the full edition of Scribes on Rare’s site.

I hope they’ll add to Nuts and Bolts with downloadable content. It did say they had plenty of ideas for a sequel – perhaps they can use some in that way?

So they fucked us over on Nuts and Bolts and now they’re putting Banjo on the back burner? Fuck you Rare. I’m not buying your shit ever again.
