‘Bean’ gives credit to Perfect Dark XBLA rumour

The codename for GoldenEye XBLA spotted in a new proof of PD remake

In the latest weeks, the hints at a release of Perfect Dark XBLA has been buzzing all over. First, it was Rare themselves who ‘ unintentionally’ published an screenshot of their Tooie’s Splendid Theme for the dashboard revealing an image of Joanna Dark circa 1999. Now, a second leak show the same icon along with the name of the game: Perfect Dark. The snapshot, which shows a list of titles from the Xbox dashboard, was sent to Destructoid a few days ago by an anonymous source.

Perfect Dark & Bean featured in the Xbox dashboard

Obviously, this could be a fake, but there’s an extra element that somehow proves that, if that was the case, it would be a very documented one.

More than the Perfect Dark file, it also came to our attention the ‘other’ Joanna Dark icon, showing the Xbox 360 model from PDZ, which comes along with the title “Bean”. As both Xbox Evolved and MundoRare confirmed through their own sources a year ago, this was the codename for GoldenEye XBLA, ‘Project Bean’, before Nintendo ruined its release. ‘Bean’ was also supposed to feature a Jo Dark icon during the development process.

This is important because it would corroborate that the snapshot was directly taken from a development kit from Rare Ltd, where a copy of GoldenEye -or let’s call it ‘Bean’- still remains. This would also mean that this port, or most probably remake (or simply both, since GoldenEye XBLA featured an option to switch between both versions with a single button during the match), is also being developed in-house at Rare, and it wouldn’t be 4J Studios or another company who is dealing with the project.

Stay tuned for any development of this rumour as E3 approaches this June 2nd-4th.

Hey Alberto,

If I look at that screen…I also see a title called Tower Bloxx Deluxe. That title is offcorse not Rare’s….but….it’s a title that is not out either, in fact, its just has been announced..if I am correct. Do the devs have early acces to games…and if so..then this is definatly a devkit.

Ciao
Mario

Yeah, Mario, developers have their own independent network… If you own a dev kit (some major sites or magazines have one) you can download games or demos before they are released. That was the case when MeriStation, a Spanish website, downloaded Jetpac Refuelled and announced it before the game was made official by Rare/Microsoft.

So then, this is without doubt….a devkit screenshot?! Then it must be true :)

I do really hope they bring that FANTASTIC Game on XBLA pretty soon just like Goldeneye, bring it with HD Graphics, MP Online, Achievements and some extras. Please Rare!!!!!.

The screenshot does not come from Rare but from an MS person who showed Forza Motorsport 3 at an official Brazilian MS event. Seems that ‘Bean’ is still up there on the dev network, so I guess the project still isn’t dead.
