Rare comments on what we expected Stop ‘n’ Swop to be

Rare provides a plot twist this time around

With Tooie’s release earlier this year on XBLA finally doing Stop ‘n’ Swop the way it was meant to be (except, of course, for the Dashboard and Live rewards; I don’t think Nintendo or Rare could see that far ahead in the future), we got ahead to asking a question to fans: knowing what Stop ‘n’ Swop was, what did you expect it to be?

  • A secret level, like Ghoulies hinted at. (216 votes) – 41%
  • Bottles’ Revenge as an unlockable. (135 votes) – 25%
  • An epic Japanese Dating Simulator, starring Jolly Roger. (100 votes) – 19%
  • A couple of new moves besides the Breegull Bash. (71 votes) – 13%

After a few months, we sent in our results to Rare. Gregg Mayles, most notably known as Banjo’s designer since day 1, had this to say:

“I think they missed an option:”

  • “A deceptively clever way of linking all of Rare’s N64 titles together, that was tragically undone by technical irregularities – 0%”

But of course! I always suspected that I’d be able to transfer the Ice Key to unlock the true use of cheese in Perfect Dark, a few eggs to Bad Fur Day to play the version mentioned by a Rare employee that we were never meant to see, and a few more eggs to Blast Corps to play an even harder version! It makes perfect sense.

Wow, that could have been sick! Really advanced for it’s time, too bad it fell apart :( they should do it now with their current games like nuts and bolts, piniata and kameo, it wouldn’t be As technologically impressive Nowa’ days but I love it when franchises mix and characters from different games/movies/shows etc meet

that would be nice but hey you can’t force them to make what they want to make. Hopefully they make a downloadable to extend the stop n swop thing

What the next rare game will be and when they decide to announce it can take it’s place for a little while anyway :p

I think the main point was to play the other game’s levels with the new gameplay. Like the banjo 1 levels extended and playeable in banjo 2.

It would even be crazier if the perfect dark’s cheese were meant to be piked up by banjo himself.
