Perfect Dark XBLA releasing “Early Winter 2010”
Achievements, screens, and Peter Molyneux revealed
With the latest PD XBLA screenshots gracing your busy lives (as well as ours; it would certainly explain the lull in news as of late, for those with your panties in a bunch about it), comes extra information.
First off, just like the game’s (accidental) reveal on Twitter, Major Nelson and Rare’s Twitter have had some liberty to discuss the release date (or, rather, month) for the game. According to the Major: “Perfect Dark Zero will be coming to Arcade in a few months. That’s all the info I have.” Of course, what he meant to say is that the original Perfect Dark was coming to XBLA, and not its prequel. Yesterday, Rare on Twitter was able to confirm “an early 2010 release which is still ‘winter’,” and to essentially stop moaning.
For those that could’ve sworn that Loveday somewhat confirmed Winter 2009, you weren’t imagining it; on Rare’s news page dated on June 3rd, he said that “at [this] time of writing it seems likely to be near the end of 2009.” It’s a bit strange, personally; it’s been years since Rare has delayed a game. Granted, 4J Studios are porting it, but anyway. “Winter” lasts until March 20th, so we may have to wait as long as that. Let’s hope not, however. While it’s sad for those hoping to use the grind feature of the Reaper gun with your friends during the holiday season, it is worth noting that this is just one delay. Longtime Rare fans will remember how constantly Perfect Dark originally was delayed; hell, Rare delayed a near-Christmas release back in 1999. It’s odd, yet interesting, to see history repeat itself ten years down the line.
Next up are the “official” screens. As you can clearly see, like what Goldeneye 007 XBLA was meant to be, this game, unlike the HD Banjo XBLA ports, is a remake. Some changes appear to be better than others, personally speaking (Cassandra De Vries looking more menacing, which fits her more, Elvis looking less charming, and Joanna Dark looking like Rihanna now, for some reason), but that comes with the territory of remaking a very beloved game.

Finally, the extra screens and Achievements that were leaked; unfortunately, these weren’t meant to be seen by the public yet, but with the Streisand Effect in… well, effect, the internet has seen it fit to post it everywhere. Eagle-eyed readers can see that Peter Molyneux makes a cameo in the game, saluting himself before getting knocked out by Jihanna.

Now for the Achievement List:

As you can see, there are 15 Achievements for the game instead of the usual 12, which means that PD XBLA may be the first to have extra Achievements for an Arcade title. Also, like BK and BT XBLA before it, the Achievements, even for those that have only played the game on Agent, seem possible, if not completely easy.
And there you have it. While the delay is not fun to wait through, hopefully the features announced will make this game get more replayability in the way it was meant to be.

these seem way too easy achievements, they should have been rock hard ‘ like unlock all the cheat modes, get all gold stars in gun range’
Comment by jordan — 11.Dec.09 @ 5:44 amCmon Rare you still have time to work on the achievements!!!! They look TOO EASY, what about getting all the gold star medals, finish every mission on Perfect Agent, collect all the weapons, FIND and get all the CHEESE, etc. You can do it better!!
Comment by Joseph — 12.Dec.09 @ 7:19 amThe thing is, sadly, I think they don’t WANT to make the achievements challenging. Reasons for this could be to cater to casual gamers, and people who buy a game solely for achievements. It’s a dirty thing to do, but it can help with sells. Trust me when I say that there are people who will buy or rent a game if they find out the achievements are a walk in the park.
Comment by ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED - Leave A Comment — 12.Dec.09 @ 10:31 amDo we know anything about the online multiplayer yet. To put it in a different light, do we know if there is any online multiplayer AT ALL?
Comment by PDzero — 12.Dec.09 @ 5:06 pmBy the way, how awesome would it be if the president in this game looks like Barack Obama!!

Ah yes, you gotta love the Streissand Effect
. Now it’s futile for RWP to have them down. But it’s also too late to make it appear as “exclusive”.
