Rare to acquire extra office space at Fazeley Studios

Is it the new Rare Miami?

This is more of a business-related article than a game article. Anyway, according to The Birmingham Post, Rare is in “final negotiations to take the last remaining units at Digbeth’s Fazeley Studios”. According to an insider, this negotiation has been going on “for seven or eight months.”

The Birmingham Post also indicates that “Fazeley Studios occupies a 150-year old converted Unitarian chapel and adjoining Sunday School buildings as well as extensive former factory buildings converted to light and spacious studios.” Indeed, if you take a look to their cool website, you’ll see that they have done a pretty neat job with the remodeling proyect!

The official word, according to Microsoft, is that they don’t, as usual, comment on rumours and speculation. It is strange, when you think about it, however; with restructures due to the economy and the somewhat small amount of employees at Rare, one has to wonder what the Fazeley Studios units will be used for. Still, we know for sure that Rare is not planning to leave Manor Park at Twycross, so they are just probably looking for some extra office space. So, will it be like Rare Miami was once, which handled Rare’s business in the US of A, or will it be something different? Either way, don’t be surprised if you see the company’s name in a future Rare game’s credit sequence.

I hope this means that MS will finally hire more game developers for Rare. This way one of the Rare studios can work on Natal and Avatar stuff. The other one new games of old classics like finally bringing out Perfect Dark 2. Plus new IPs too. They also could work on making some neat Xbox Live Arcade games.

I am a big fan of Rare and have for years wanted to see the company grow in size. So if this means more Rare made games then this is great news.
