Perfect Dark XBLA getting fixes and new features in late April

24 different PD related Avatar props are now available

With more than 175,000 downloads, Perfect Dark’s remake by 4J Studios is quickly approaching the number of players in the official Leaderboards of Banjo-Kazooie XBLA (nearly 200,000) and, thus, becoming the most successful Rare XBLA title. In fact, more than 70,000 people got the game in the first 24 hours, which is something that probably exceeded Microsoft initial expectations.

Still, the game is suffering some (sometimes quite serious, I dare say) lag issues and control complaints (for me, not much to say against this). Rare has been paying attention through their Twitter account, though, and has already announced a game update coming in “late April”. According to Rare themselves, this update will include “achievement fixes, Southpaw & Legacy controls, Swap Triggers, aim sensitivity sliders plus Solo & Team ‘Hardcore’ playlists (no radar or auto-aim).” They also point out that “all issues [are being] investigated” but it’s taking some time because “some had too many knock-on effects to implement.”

Update: Another Twitter update from Rare’s Producer Nick Ferguson shows the new advanced control options as they will be seen in the yet not available update.

Moreover, as soon as it was released, Perfect Dark also got 24 different props for Xbox Live Avatars: from Carrington Institute t-shirts or dataDyne helmets to your own flying laptop (this is, Dr. Caroll) or Grey companion (an Elvis clone). You can check prices in the Avatar Marketplace.

By the way, if you haven’t got the game yet, be sure to follow us also on Twitter and Facebook to get the chance to win a PDXBLA code soon. You can check one of our two Perfect Dark reviews in the meantime!

Did this new update nerf the ability to switch to the previous gun? When the game was released in March, there was an ability (under spartan controls) to use [Y + right trigger] to return to the previous gun. Was this ability taken away because of the update?
