Perfect Dark XBLA title update finally available today

PD XBLA also earned $1.61 million dollars in its first month

It’s been quite the month for Rare in terms of news. Of course, Perfect Dark’s re-release is the current darling for the company before showing what they can do with Project Natal. First and foremost, it’s safe to say that PD XBLA has been selling well. In its first month (which, technically, wasn’t even an entire month), it made approximately $1.61 million. At its price, it’s definitely not a bad turnout.

While we’re on the subject of PD XBLA, Rare’s Twitter has been quite chatty over the next title update related to the First-Person Shooter. The update, originally meant to be available last week, will be available on May 6th. Which is today. Rare also posted a news article on the site on what this update will contain, in what has come to be known as my favorite form:

  • Legacy controls
  • Southpaw (left-handed) controls
  • Swap Triggers control option
  • Lock Sight control option
  • Precision Aim sensitivity tuning
  • Hardcore (No Radar, No Auto-Aim, No Highlights, Combat only) matchmaking playlist
  • Gamma (brightness) option
  • Secondary Fire Reset option in Combat Simulator
  • Quick Menu select using either Left or Right stick
  • Player Handicap reinstated in local multiplayer
  • Client player progress recorded in Live Co-Op game
  • Progress recorded for all primary players (main player on each console) in Live Challenges
  • Counter-Op progress recorded for both players if Jo player successfully completes the level
  • Achievement fixes including ‘Tools of the Trade’ (anyone who’s earned but not received it will now do so), ‘Who Needs Enemies’ (awarded to Counter-Op player after a full mission’s progress), ‘How’s That For Starters?’ (awarded to Counter-Op player if Jo player completes first level)
  • Increased duration of explosions to better match the N64 experience
  • Laptop Gun sentry mode performance adjusted to match the N64 experience

While my inner sadist is happy that the Player Handicap is coming back, I wonder if the ‘increased duration of explosions” is necessarily a good thing. One of the reasons why the remake is better than the original is because I don’t have time to read a book between my deaths and respawns.

All you need to do for this update is to connect to the game while signed on to Xbox Live. There, a message should pop up, prompting you to update.

But, wait, there’s more PD XBLA love yet. In case you haven’t downloaded it yet, or even if you did but some of your friends didn’t, we are giving away some free PDXBLA codes to celebrate the game update. All you have to do is becoming our follower on Twitter and retweet this tweet with your own account. Among all the ones who RT, we’ll raffle one code for each winner!

I’m really hoping I win a code… Haha, I really miss Perfect Dark and it’ll be just in time for my birthday. XP

Are you guys still doing a giveaway on Facebook too?

The effort is appreciated, but how could they still leave out one-hit-kills online??? This option upgrades the entire experience in many ways and thus it was the ONLY way many people played the game on the 64. How could it still be completely overlooked!!??

I actually think one hit kills are a little cheap.
