James Bond will return in November
It still won’t be by Rare
Around November, MundoRare reported on the possibility of a GoldenEye 007 game coming to the Wii. Given that Rare has been absorbed into Microsoft Game Studios, it was safe to say that they wouldn’t be responsible for it. Now we have reports of the possible remake coming to both the Wii and DS this November. According to Eurogamer’s sources, Activision plans to reveal it at E3. Developers Eurocom and n-Space are reported to be developing the two versions.

Now that it’s confirmed to exist, here’s where things confuse us: if Nintendo was (and is) in a position to deny GoldenEye XBLA and ultimately screw over both Wii and Xbox 360 owners, why can’t Microsoft do the same this time around? As we mentioned in the past, the IP rights of the game are split between Microsoft, Nintendo, and Activision. Microsoft and Activision were more than content to release GoldenEye XBLA (and presumably GoldenEye on the Virtual Console). Nintendo was not. Surely Microsoft is in some position to either do what Nintendo did or provide some sort of deal. After all, with this game, Nintendo has three versions of GoldenEye for potential customers, both old and new. Microsoft, in contrast, only has one version to sell, which would be Rare’s XBLA title.
We think that the reason we haven’t heard anything from Microsoft is because, perhaps, instead of remaking Rare’s title, they’re remaking the game to be more accurate to the film, if that makes any sense.
What are your thoughts? Do you think that Rare’s version should come to light on both the Xbox Live Arcade and Wii in exchange for Nintendo being able to sell three versions of GoldenEye, or should they just leave any chance of remaking it alone?

Is there any chance of the game being a carbon copy of Rares Goldeneye? Or is it going to be a whole nmew imagining? if so that is probaly why microsoft can’t do anything..

^^^ Actually, they’re making a game based on the movie. As hard that is for you to believe.
You see, there is absolutely nothing preventing Activision from making such a game. They removed the only bump on the road they had by replacing Pierce Brosnan with Daniel Craig’s likeness. Add to that some influence from the N64 classic and you got a game that is some sort of homage to both the movie and the original game based on said film.
All perfectly legal.
Comment by Ed — 15.Jun.10 @ 10:07 amI hate this. Looking at the wii version, I don’t like the fact that Activision is doing it and it has that Call of Duty feel. Thats not what Goldeneye 007 is. I wish the XBLA version could see the light of day, I would pay whatever it takes to play the XBLA version. Man Nintendo just gave RARE the rights to the game, and that goes for you Activision. Only RARE, the developers who made the original Goldeneye 007, can do everything right with it.

Totally agreed. Now we are all getting this shitty ass remake for the Wii.
Goldeneye 007 made by rare is a diamond jewel, that’s a good work because the game itself (discarting graphics) it’s funny, it has challenge and it’s fully playable with friends: we get fun. I used to play Nintendo since my childhood, but things are different now.
I’ll hope Rareware do something (a new super game or something like that) in revenge against those fools from Nintendo.

Very interesting indeed. I do believe Nintendo doesn’t want anything to do with Rare anymore. Think about it. They’re releasing a game that has the same name and concept of Rare’s version, but it’s made by another company yet they don’t want anything to do with Rare’s version?
