Kinect Sports and… that’s it, really

Rare could also have a fitness title in development

Hopefully those that have found out about Kinect Sports were able to stave off suicide for a few hours, because Microsoft’s Press Conference had more to say about it. The conference revealed that Kinect Sports will be a launch title for Kinect. Besides that? Sadly, that’s it.

While we’re pretty sure Kinect Sports will be better than Wii Sports, we really don’t think that it was worth getting past games canceled. At all. What’s even more disappointing is that anything else would’ve been good. An XBLA port from 4J. Kameo redux for Kinect. Heck, anything would’ve been better than one game that fans have waited for nearly a year and a half. Anything to assure fans that their wait wasn’t for naught. Yet, at this moment in time, it’s been for naught.

According to a reliable NeoGAF poster, Rare has a Fitness title in development, yet the theory is that they didn’t want to steal Ubisoft’s thunder.

As of this moment, it’s been -02 days since Rare promised they would reveal their new, undoubtely Kinect-focused, site. Rare’s latest tweets not only painfully feel as if our skin’s being peeled with a cheese grater in regards of Kinect Sports being the primary focus, but that it should be revealed tomorrow. The excitement, as you can probably tell, is palpitating.

As nearly every other developer has done, Rare has made its share of decisions that fell right on its face, with some justification coming out of it. This is, without a doubt, the only time where having a Rare game revealed was worse than showing nothing.

Shiggy doesn’t know anything more than you do. ‘Your Shape’ is also going up against EA Active 2. Rare is obviously working on something else. Many other things, I suspect.

A fitness title? Now I’m worried.

@ HotBird

Yeah they will be working on something else alright. Its called Kinect Play. You know like wii play. That crappy game that you put down in five minutes. Thats how I see them now.

Or perhaps its kinect fit. MS are going to use rare to make that garbage shovelware that takes up the entire wii shelf each month. I never thought I would say this but Rare suck. At least as long as they continue to work with MS.

On a serious note though if it is just wii sports and wii fit on kinect they’ve been working on they are dead to me.

I agree with this article. They have let down on several occasions but never fully disappointed. I for one actually enjoyed some games Rare put out and its only after nuts and bolts that I’ve questioned everything. But this reaches a new low.

Comment by HAHAHAHA — 15.Jun.10 @ 7:56 am

Just know it’s Microsoft who’s holding them back. I know Rare wouldn’t act like this on their own.

Comment by Hamilton — 15.Jun.10 @ 8:18 am

I know. It was MS that cancelled all these games. What I don’t understand is their reasoning behind it.

Why would they cancel all those for this? All I want to see now is they go to a developer that truly understands them. Is Greenburg’s ego so big that it cannot see through the games we want?

God even another viva pinata would have been preferable, urghhh, its almost as if we are being painfully teased

Rare’s new website just launched. Appearently Kinect Sports is all they’re doing this year. DAMN YOU MICROSOFT!

Comment by Hamilton — 15.Jun.10 @ 8:13 pm

In 2010 all they are doing is KINECT SPORTS WTF?!

They better make a new conker in 2011 or I’ll be pissed. I mean it, I MEAN IT!!!

Comment by 1994 cain — 15.Jun.10 @ 9:33 pm

Interesting find billy. I do hope the company you, I, and others grew up with will not keep us disappointed for long.

@1994 cain: as opposed to now? :D

Comment by Hamilton — 15.Jun.10 @ 10:20 pm

@Hamilton: What does as opposed to now mean?

Comment by 1994 cain — 15.Jun.10 @ 10:39 pm

As in contrast to now. You’re saying you will be mad if Rare doesn’t release a new Conker game in 2011, yet you seem mad now. How will your anger differ from now until then?

Rareware is dead. Microsoft killed them.

In the same time, Nintendo is announcing a Goldeneye remake for the Wii, and a new Donkey Kong Country.

I hate Microsoft and I will always hate them.

Comment by 1994 cain — 17.Jun.10 @ 4:57 am

i’m sure they’ll release an hd remake of conker’s bad fur day on xbla, then maybe (for SURE) they’ll make a sequel. if they don’t, i don’t know how i’ll survive the rest of my life always yearning for a new conker game

@1994 cain: Well that’s a tough one. Hmm… Perhaps Perfect Dark or Conker.

@Hamilton: Thank you for answering my question.

This is unacceptable. Looks like Rare has bit the hand that feeds with this one. With current gen consoles, it seems that everyone is just ripping off Nintendo with no creativity whatsoever. Rare could’ve broken through with some creative way to utilize the Kinnect, since instead of flatout copying the Wii like the PS3, they actually attempted to build on it. Too bad Rare didn’t, and now it’s just another mediocre sports title.

Wii Sports was pretty much perfect to begin with when it comes to controls, so what’s the incentive for me to buy this game?

You know rare I ask for Killer Instinct 3, I did not say a stupid sport kinect game. Just go back to nintendo already. Then think about making Killer instinct 3 for either 3DS or Wii U, that would be really badass!
