Rare’s teaser website is online

Light blue, orange and white replaced for gray, green, and white

A few days ago, Rare changed their icon from the iconic gold that we eventually got adjusted to in the end to a logo with the Rare “R” being smaller than ever. Since the previous article, Rare posted on their news section that the logo was designed “with versatility in mind.” What exactly they mean by versatility is something only known by Rare for now.

Rare's brand new site

Speaking of their site, they also mentioned that they’d be changing the ‘Welcome to Rare’ website we’ve grown adjusted to. And that they have, since yesterday. If you go on the main page, you can see that it’s now been replaced by a simplistic teaser design. Like the video and subsequent phonecall from The Ring, we all have 7 (well, now 5) days to find out exactly what Rare’s been up to. Either that, or we end up dying somehow.

There’s not much else to do at the moment on the site. You can put in your e-mail address for, according to Rare’s Twitter, “(potential) newsletters and (possible) giveaways.” Besides the lone Avatar there (as opposed to a more famous Rare-made character), the slogan “One in a million” is on the teaser page. Whether that’s their new slogan or a hint that will end up making sense in context is, again, something only Rare knows.

What’s worth mentioning regarding that line is a recent article from IGN; the theory they have is that the “One in a million” line connects with a recent Microsoft promotion. On Facebook, Microsoft is allowing users to download free music from Xbox as thanks for reaching one million users. The theory is that Rare’s next game will be something akin to Facebook, in which it’ll “allow your Avatar to interact” with other friends.

Microsoft's promotion in Facebook

The site, as mentioned, opens in 5 days, which is when Microsoft is expected to have their Natal showcase before E3 officially begins on the 15th. At this rate, it’s very safe to say that we’ll be seeing something from Rare to merit the site updating.

Whether Rare’s current fans will like what will be seen is up in the air. Anyway, what are your thoughts on the current site?

like i said on ign… their ideas made me almost have a stroke. the worst thing i could think up was “natal sports”… facebook games? really? id never support rare ever again. sad thing is… i can see this coming to fruition. i really hope they announce two games. a crappy natal party game AND a serious platforming or w/e game as well.

p.s.- theyre starting to go the way of sega… no wonder their teaming up with them. there comes a point when trying something new and different goes too far and turns into- no fans happy what so ever. i can deal with some new stuff, but rare isnt listening at all… sure microsoft is part of the problem telling them what to do but… come on. this is getting bad.
